Show next image by clicking images in NextGEN Gallery with shutter effect

Here‘s the same for NextGEN + Thickbox!

Last year I posted an article about modifying NextGEN Gallery (with Thickbox) to show the next image when you click on the current one. This behaviour is well known from Facebook an co. To go to the next picture, just click on the current one. To close the slideshow, just click beside the picture. Easy. You can find the article here.

Since I used the Thickbox effect in my modification, a lot of people asked me if it is possbile with the Shutter effect, too. Of course it is!

Here’s what you have to do to modify NextGEN Gallery with the Shutter effect to display the next image by clicking on the current one. I tested it with WordPress 3.7.1 und NextGen 2.0.33.

1 – Open the file wp-content/plugins/nextgen_gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/lightbox/static/shutter/shutter.js

2 – Arround line number 143 there should be a line like this:

You have to replace this line with the following one:

3 – Now you have to add a new function just before

Here’s the function you have to add:

Now the file should look like this:

NextGEN-Shutter-Mod

That’s it! I hope it works for everyone.

Thomas

Trip to Croatia

My girlfriend and I used the last sunny days in this summer for a trip to Croatia. Being the fist time in Croatia, we were very impressed by its nature, its people and beautiful places. Here are some of our impressions, including Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.

Image optimization for websites

Optimizing the images of a web page is easy and the best way to speedup the site. On the basis of the famous book “Even Faster Web Sites” by Steve Souders, Annette Landmesser and I made a small presentation for an university course called Development of Rich Media Systems thought by Jakob Schröter. The presentation contains some general patterns and practices for lossy and non-lossy optimization. Enjoy.

I will also write a paper about image optimization for websites for my university course in a couple of weeks. The paper will be in German.

Some impressions of Aix-en-Provence

I spend the last few weeks in Aix-en-Provence, a small town in the very south of France close to Marseille. My girlfriend is currently studying there as a part of her master-degree. Since the weather is not so bad there (especially compared to Germany and Sweden), I got the chance to shot some good photos. Enjoy.

Hej då Sverige!

After almost 5 months Linköping University in Sweden, it’s time for me to leave and go home again. The tickets for the ferry are already booked as well as a cheap hostel in the middle of Hamburg – I think this stop will be fun.

Here are some last pictures from Lappland, Västerås and Linköping itself. Enjoy, I did it.

Halbzeit in Schweden

Last Monday, I arrived in Linköping, Sweden. Until December, I will do my ERASMUS semester here. I’m at the Linköping University, where I will take some courses of the Computer Science Master Program. The orientation program is starting today (in about an hour) and the actual courses will start next Monday.

Together with my girlfriend, I traveled to Sweden in the last couple of weeks. Here are some of our impressions. The pictures have no special order. They are from Germany (Düsseldrof, Münster and Rostock), Denmark (especially from Copenhagen) and Sweden.

I will not blog about every little happening, but you will probably find some of the “big news” or “great pictures” here.

Best regards,
Thomas Uhrig
